Knotted Sleep Cap Tutorial

Do you want to take my Thick Knot Top Hat pattern from this...

And turn it into a sleep cap like this...

Well, I'm going to tell you how!

Modification #1 - The Brim
Instead of a knit rolled edging use a ribbed edging.  On this 3-6mth one I did 3x3 (k3p3) but you could use whatever combination you like (2x2, 3x1, 1x1, etc!).  Then do a purl round to finish it off. *Note - I would advise doing 1/2in less in length to the first decrease when doing a ribbed edging over a rolled edge.

Modification #2 - The Stripes
My thick Knot Top Hat has a 4 round stripe repeat.  For the Sleep Cap I did a 12 round stripe repeat.

Modifications #3 - Extending the Length
To make the Sleep Cap longer on the last 2 sets of repeats instead of knitting 1 round knit something like 8-12 rounds.  I did knit 8 rounds, decrease, knit 12 rounds decrease work the length as stated in my Thick Knot Top Hat to form the length needed to add the knot at the end.

That's it!  It's that simple!  Don't forget to share your creations from my patterns on my facebook wall!  I love to see how people personalize my patterns.

Teddy Bear Ear Tutorial

How to find gauge: Cast on appx 10sts. Measure how many sts are in each inch. The sts per inch count it your gauge.

Step 1: Find your gauge

Step 2: Cast on the correct amount of sts to give you appx 3ins leaving a long tail to sew the ear onto your hat. It doesn't have to be perfect but you MUST use the same amount of sts for both ears.

Step 3: Knit 3 rows then switch to stockinette st until you have appx 1-1.5ins from the cast on edge (I used 3 rows in garter st and 7rows in stockinette st for the pictured ears).

Step 4: DO NOT BIND OFF! Cut your yarn leaving a long tail (appx 8ins) and pull it through all the sts.

Step 5: Pull the yarn tail tight to form a semi-circle and tie off your yarn tail.

Step 6: Make the second ear.

Step 7: Using the long tail from casting on, sew your ears onto your hat.

Ta-da! It's just that simple! You can add these ears to hats, hoodies, blankies – whatever cuteness you can think up!
